YEREVAN. April 14 (Interfax) - Armenia stands ready for meetings with Azerbaijani representatives, but such meetings require a suitable atmosphere, Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian said.
"Armenia has never avoided meetings, but they require certain conditions, at least a proper atmosphere of confidence, and also a clear agenda. By making belligerent anti-Armenian statements, Azerbaijan is obstructing the formation of such an atmosphere," Aivazian said at the parliament on Wednesday.
A strong OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship could help form an atmosphere of confidence, he said.
"Armenia's principled position is that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be considered finally resolved only via a political and negotiated settlement, respecting the rights of all parties and based on determining Nagorno-Karabakh's status," Aivazian said.
Armenia stands ready to host the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group for settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict "as part of the endorsed practice of regional visits."
The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs earlier made a statement calling for special attention to be paid "to the achievement of a final comprehensive and sustainable settlement on the basis of the elements and principles well-known to the sides."
The mediators also mentioned the importance of fostering "direct contacts and cooperation between communities affected by the conflict."
They also called on the sides "to provide unimpeded access and maximum flexibility of movement with regard to the Co-Chairs' travel itineraries, in accordance with their mandate and previous practice."
