YEKATERINBURG. April 15 (Interfax) - Servicemen from the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan have been deployed to Tajik ranges for a joint Russian-Tajik exercise, the press service of the Central Military District said on Thursday.
"Mechanized convoys of the 201st Russian military base have arrived from Dushanbe to the Kharb-Maidon, Sambuli and Momirak ranges, having covered distances of more than 400 kilometers," the press service said.
While on the march, the servicemen practiced deterrence of a mock enemy's attack, sustenance at the halt, and orienteering in an unfamiliar area with the support from army aviation.
As reported earlier, the 201st Russian military base and the Tajik Armed Forces will hold a joint exercise on April 19-23 under the supervision of Central Military District Commander Alexander Lapin.
Russia will be represented by about 2,500 servicemen and more than 350 pieces of weapons and military and special hardware, including attack and military transport helicopters Mil Mi-24 and Mi-8MTV5-1, as well as T-72 tanks, modernized BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles, BTR-82A and BTR-80 armored personnel carriers, and Grad and Uragan rocket launchers.
Crews of Sukhoi Su-25 aircraft stationed at the Russian air base in Kant, Kyrgyzstan, will also take part in the exercise.
The Central Military District is stationed in three federal districts and 29 constituent territories of Russia. It also includes a number of facilities outside of Russia: the 201st military base in Tajikistan, the joint military base in Kyrgyzstan, and the units stationed in Kazakhstan. The district is headquartered in Yekaterinburg.
