MOSCOW. April 16 (Interfax) - The Dagestan frigate, the Uglich, Volgodonsk and Astrakhan corvettes, and support vessels of the Caspian Flotilla have left the base for a tactical drill held in the course of their preparedness check, the Southern Military District press service said on Friday.
"The Dagestan frigate will perform a series of artillery launches at marine, coastal, and airborne targets, while the Palash air defense artillery and missile system will perform preliminary and test artillery launches at floating mines at distances of 2 cable lengths (about 400 meters). Missile system operators will perform an electronic launch to practice the destruction of a mock enemy's surface ship using precision-guided missile weapons [Kalibr-NK]," the press service said.
This is a scheduled exercise that completes the winter training season in the Caspian Flotilla.
The exercise will feature a training battle between corvettes and surface ships of a mock enemy involving aircraft from the 4th Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Southern Military District. In addition, the Dagestan and Uglich corvettes will practice air defense by means of ECM systems.
In all, more than ten warships and support vessels of the Caspian Flotilla are performing training assignments at marine ranges.
