MOSCOW. May 11 (Interfax) - The situation in Afghanistan has worsened since Washington's announcement of troop withdrawal from the country, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said.
"Security is currently the number one issue in the region in light of the U.S. announcement of the withdrawal of troops. More than half of them have already pulled out, and the situation inside Afghanistan sharply escalated right after the announcement," Rahmon said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday.
Putin noted Dushanbe's valid concerns and said that he would like to hear his Tajik counterpart's opinion on this score.
