MOSCOW. May 11 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed in a phone call on Monday an escalation in the Palestinian-Israeli relations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The foreign ministers expressed serious concerns over the Palestine-Israel escalation and the dangerous exacerbation of tension in East Jerusalem, primarily in the area around the Al Aqsa Mosque compound," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"In this context, the two ministers condemned the eviction of Palestinians from their original home district - the Sheikh Jarrah quarters - and in the spirit of the joint statement of special representatives of the Quartet of international mediators for a Middle East settlement of May 8, 2021, they urged all the sides to this conflict to display restraint and refrain from any actions that would risk further escalation on the month of Ramadan, which is sacred for Muslims," the statement reads.
"Under the existing agreement between the presidents of the two countries, Lavrov and Cavusoglu discussed prospects for organizing deliveries of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine from Russia to Turkey and for its production in the country," it says.
"Additionally, [Lavrov and Cavusoglu] stressed the need to continue efforts to stabilize the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
