BAKU. May 17 (Interfax) - The current tension on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be settled politically, without intervention by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.
"Armenia's turning to the CSTO regarding the matter has no grounds whatsoever and is none other than an attempt by its authorities to politicize the issue. This tension should be resolved through policy and negotiation," Bayramov told his Tajikistani counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin by telephone.
There had been other differences in this issue and they were resolved through talks involving the three sides which signed the trilateral statement, Bayramov said.
Azerbaijan is taking steps to strengthen its border security in the framework of its territorial integrity, he said.
Senior officials from Azerbaijan's State Border Service travelled to the region and held talks with Armenian border guards, the minister said.
