YEKATERINBURG. May 18 (Interfax) - A training session as part of a meeting of the coordination council of specialists of the military topographic service of the Armed Forces of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has begun in Yekaterinburg, the press service for Russia's Central Military District said on Tuesday.
"The event is attended by specialists from the topographic service of the Armed Forces of six foreign countries, namely Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan," the statement said.
During the training session, military topographers of the foreign armies will be shown a special tactical episode of providing troops with geospatial data about the terrain in the field, and training points will be deployed at the training range on the topics of the use of unmanned aircraft as part of topographic and geodetic support of troops, as well as the production of photo maps based on the obtained aerial photographs.
Additionally, during the training session, a draft concept of topogeodetic and navigational support of a unified control system for the Armed Forces of the CIS member states will be considered.
The training session will last until May 20. The events are underway on the premises of a military enterprise in Yekaterinburg, as well as at the training range in the Sverdlovsk Region under the general leadership of Alexander Zaliznyuk, the head of the Military Topographic Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff.
