Kremlin calls interaction with U.S. in cybersecurity immensely important

MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - Moscow views cooperation with the United States in cybersecurity as immensely important, as it is impossible to put an end to hacker attacks without all countries' interaction in this field, the Kremlin said.

"You're aware of President Vladimir Putin's initiative which was addressed to all countries and says that interaction in countering cybercrime and in the field of information security is necessary and has no alternative. Without such interaction, we will not be able to eliminate or minimize the threat posed by these infamous hackers who all of our foes think are linked to the Russian state," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters when asked to what extent Russia thinks it is possible to make progress during a planned Russia-U.S. summit in solving issues concerning cooperation in security.

"Therefore, of course, this cooperation as such is immensely important," Peskov said.

At the same time, the presidential press secretary declined to say how low bilateral relations can plunge in order to start de-escalation.

"Let's first clarify everything related to this event as such and then discuss it," he said.
