YEREVAN. May 26 (Interfax) - Acting Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian has noted the need for dialogue with regional partners against the backdrop of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border conflict.
"Azerbaijan feels impunity and is trying to create new geopolitical realities in the region, which do not meet the interests of countries concerned with regional stability. Under these circumstances, our dialogue with regional partners is of paramount significance," Aivazian said at a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Yerevan on Wednesday.
Azerbaijani forces were deployed to the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions of Armenia on May 12-13, and Armenia made a relevant appeal to the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The Armenian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that an Armenian serviceman had been killed in a shootout with Azerbaijani troops in the Verin Shorzha border area of the Gegharkunik region in eastern Armenia.
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry denied the Armenian reports of a shootout and said, referring to the information available in Baku, that the Armenian serviceman died in an accident.
