MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland will visit Moscow on June 9-10 for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
"At the upcoming meeting, the sides will have an extensive discussion on recent developments around the West Bank and Gaza. Special focus will be placed on eventual consolidated steps by the Middle East Quartet of International Mediators (Russia, the U.S., UN and EU) aimed at forming necessary conditions to promptly secure a sustainable negotiation process between conflicting parties," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
"As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a participant in the Middle East Quartet, Russia proceeds from the notion that there may be only a political solution to all the issues concerning the final status in accordance with the international legal framework for Middle East settlement, including the principle of two states, Palestine and Israel, coexisting in peace and security within the borders of 1967," it said.
"In this context, Russia will continue to make active efforts to help begin and promote a direct dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis with emphasis on the ceasefire regime established on May 21 this year," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
