NOVOSIBIRSK. June 10 (Interfax) - Special operations units from Russia's Central Military District and Uzbekistan have wrapped up the first stage of their joint tactical exercise in the Sayan Mountains, the press service of the Central Military District said.
"Special operations groups had to reach the area behind mock enemy lines by conducting a five-kilometer march in conditions of the mountainous Siberian taiga. The servicemen navigated sheer cliffs, some of which were up to 20 meters high, and built a temporary bridge across a mountain river 15 meters wide. The participants received mountain gear to tackle their combat training missions," the press service said.
The joint tactical exercise involving special operations forces from Russia's Central Military District and Uzbekistan began on June 8 and will end on June 11. They are taking place at the Yergaki military and sports training center, located 1,700 meters above sea level. The center annually trains around 700 servicemen as part of mountain warfare and specialized training programs.
