YEREVAN. June 16 (Interfax) - Acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has spoken in favor of unblocking transport links in the region, as this would not only favor Azerbaijan but would also meet Armenia's interests.
"On the whole, we favor the reopening of communication lines in the region, because both Azerbaijan and we need this," Pashinyan said while meeting with voters in the town of Kapan in the Syunik region of Armenia on Wednesday.
Pashinyan stressed, however, that the trilateral statement on Nagorno-Karabakh of November 10, 2020 does not mention "Meghri, or Zangezur, or a corridor."
"Armenia is committed to all the international obligations it took on in that statement, unlike Azerbaijan, which has still not returned the Armenian prisoners of war. Don't fall for any manipulation, including Azerbaijan's. The statement doesn't mention Meghri, or Zangezur, or a corridor," he said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech to Azerbaijani parliamentarians in Baku earlier on Wednesday that the Zangezur corridor project is of great importance to the countries of the region, including Armenia.
"The convenience that the Zangezur corridor will provide to the region is beyond description. Using a railroad, which would start functioning as part of the Zangezur corridor, Armenians would be able to easily get to Moscow and other parts of the world, thus getting rid of the isolation they have put themselves in," Erdogan said.
