Gepard submarine practices destroying simulated enemy with anti-submarine missile in Barents Sea

MOSCOW. June 17 (Interfax) - The crew of the Gepard nuclear submarine has practiced destroying a simulated underwater enemy with an anti-submarine missile during a planned tactical exercise in the Northern Fleet's range in the Barents Sea, the fleet's press service said on Thursday.

"The launch was conducted with the use of training ammunition from an underwater position upon a submarine of the same type," it said.

The exercise results were recognized as successful, it said.

The firing area had been closed to civilian navigation beforehand, it said.

"Before the attack, the crew of the Gepard nuclear submarine practiced a tactic for hunting for and tracking a simulated enemy's submarine," it said.
