MINSK. June 24 (Interfax) - Russia is fulfilling arms contracts with Armenia, the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) said in a statement.
"Our military-technical cooperation with the Republic of Armenia is continuing consistent with relevant international agreements. Military products are being supplied in accordance with the relevant requests from our Armenian partners," the FSMTC said on the sidelines of the MILEX 2021 defense exhibition in Minsk.
Armenia is Russia's ally in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) consisting of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
As reported earlier, Moscow provided Yerevan with a government loan for purchasing Russian weapons and hardware. A report published on the official portal of legal information in February 2016 said, in particular, that Armenia had purchased Smerch rocket launchers, Igla-S air defense missile systems, and TOS-1A heavy flamethrowers from Russia.
The Kommersant newspaper reported in April 2016 with the reference to the UN register of conventional weapons that Russia had accomplished the first delivery of heavy weapons, including 35 tanks, 110 armored combat vehicles, 50 rocket launchers and 200 rockets, to Armenia.
It was also reported that Armenia had become the first foreign state to receive the export modification of Russia's Iskander-M short-range ballistic missile system.
At the end of 2019. The Armenian Armed Forces were supplied with four Russian Sukhoi Su-30SM fighter jets of generation 4+. Yerevan expressed the intention to keep buying military aircraft from Russia.
