TALLINN. July 6 (Interfax/BNS) - The Estonian Foreign Ministry has stated that the detention by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) of Estonian Consul Mart Latte in St. Petersburg on Tuesday was a provocation.
"What the FSB did was a show. The allegations are unfounded. This is another example of Russia not being interested in friendly relations with neighboring countries," Estonian Foreign Ministry press secretary Aari Lemmik told BNS.
"Mart Latte was detained today after a working meeting in the St. Petersburg State Polytechnic Institute," Lemmik said.
"He was held for an hour and a half," he said.
The FSB said earlier on Tuesday that Estonian Consul in St. Petersburg Mart Latte had been detained while trying to receive classified information from a Russian citizen.
