NUR-SULTAN. July 7 (Interfax) - Parties to the Astana-format Syria talks in Nur-Sultan will discuss a number of issues, including the situation on the ground and the resumption of activities of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, Russian Special Presidential Representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said.
"We are extremely worried about the situation on the ground, first and foremost in the Idlib de-escalation area. Of course, we will discuss such an important matter as the establishment of constructive dialogue between Syrian democratic forces and Damascus. The unfavorable situation unfolding in the occupied at-Tanf area definitely deserves attention. There are still plenty of militants there; they are destabilizing the situation in southern, southeastern and southwestern Syria," Lavrentyev said in his comments on the agenda of the Nur-Sultan talks.
"Obviously, we will closely analyze the political process, further activities of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva. As you know, UN Special Envoy for Syria Mr. Pedersen is here, so we will continue to discuss the issue and the need for the sixth session of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, as we believe every condition has been created to make it a success," Lavrentyev said.
