Interior Ministry: Russia not to legalize any kinds of drugs

MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax) - The Russian authorities are not considering the possibility of easing or revising the country's current anti-drug policy, Police Maj. Gen. Kirill Smurov, acting director of the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Directorate for Drug Control, said in an interview with Interfax.

"The Russian Federation is categorically opposed to any legalization of drugs and will continue applying its current measures of control," Smurov said.

Russia will continue its active cooperation with other countries in order to dismantle cross-border drug smuggling channels, he said.

Active work is also underway to counter the spread of drug propaganda on the Internet, he said.

"In 2020, [Russian telecoms watchdog] Roskomnadzor, acting at the Interior Ministry's request, blocked access to around 20,400 materials with drug-related content," Smurov said.
