New Armenian defense minister discusses regional security with Russian ambassador in Yerevan

YEREVAN. Aug 3 (Interfax) - New Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan had his first meeting with Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin on Tuesday.

The ambassador introduced the minister to Col. Igor Shcherbakov, the new military attache at the Russian embassy, the Armenian Defense Ministry's press service said.

"During the meeting, the defense minister and the Russian ambassador addressed a broad range of issues of military and military-political cooperation and exchanged views on regional security matters. The sides lauded Armenian-Russian allied relations and political dialogue and called cooperation in the field of defense effective," the press service said.

Karapetyan was appointed the new Armenian defense minister by a presidential executive order on Monday.
