MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Air defense units from the Guards Red Banner Combined-Arms Army of the Western Military District have held an exercise involving new Buk-M3 air defense missile systems in the Kursk region, the district press service said on Wednesday.
"Consistent with the exercise scenario, on-duty air defense missile systems detected missiles launched by a mock enemy towards field command posts of the army's ground formation, using surveillance radars. Units of the Buk-M3 battalion, which had been put on combat duty, trained the automatic tracking and locking of targets and monitored the targets till the moment they entered the control area," the press service said.
"In addition, the air defense missile systems trained the interaction with standby forces to distribute targets for the effective suppression of strikes of the mock enemy. More than 20 targets were destroyed by electronic missile launches," the press service said.
The field training of air defense forces of the Combined-Arms Army of the Western Military District in the Kursk region involved more than 600 servicemen and over 250 pieces of weapons and military and special hardware, including Strela-10 MANPADS.
