HARB-MAIDON range,Tajikistan. Aug 10 (Interfax) - The Russian military base in Tajikistan has been supplied with new weapons - Verba MANPADS, AK-12 Kalashnikov rifles and modern sniper rifles and flamethrowers - against the backdrop of escalating tensions in Afghanistan.
"The 201st military base has been armed with newest AK-12 Kalashnikov rifle, Yarygin handguns that replaced Makarov pistols, modern ASVK-M large-caliber army sniper rifles, long-range flamethrowers, and Verba MANPADS," the press service of the Central Military District said on Tuesday.
"All those weapons were used by Russian units in the course of the joint exercise with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, held amid destabilization of the situation in Afghanistan," the press service said.
