MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - The new Russian multirole nuclear submarine Kazan delivered to the Navy in May can carry Tsirkon hypersonic missiles, Rear Adm. Alexander Zarenkov, commander of the Northern Fleet's 11th Submarine Division, said on Tuesday.
"This project is special in that [the submarine] is equipped with versatile launchers capable of being armed with Oniks anti-ship missiles, Tsirkon hypersonic missiles, or Kalibr cruise missiles, which enables it to deliver numerous strikes, both on an enemy's surface or ground-based targets," Zarenkov said in a report to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during unified military goods commissioning day.
The submarine "differs from its predecessors in that it has better stealth capability, enhanced maneuvering systems, upgraded communications and sonar systems, and better habitability," he said.
