Russia to adequately respond to North Macedonia declaring Russian diplomat persona non grata - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Russia will respond adequately to the unfriendly step taken by North Macedonia, which has declared a Russian diplomat persona non grata, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Of course, we will have to adequately respond to these unfounded unfriendly actions," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website.

The North Macedonian authorities have declared persona non grata an employee of the Russian embassy in Skopje, who completed his assignment even before the decision was made public, the ministry said.

"Unfortunately, the North Macedonian authorities are continuing to move along a confrontational path, not paying attention to the fact that such steps are detrimental to bilateral relations," it said.

According to some media reports, the deputy military attache at the Russian embassy, whose activities the Macedonian authorities see as inconsistent with the diplomatic rules adopted in North Macedonia, has been declared persona non grata.
