Russia's Navy monitoring NATO maneuvers involving U.S. destroyer in Norwegian Sea

MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax) - The Russian Navy is monitoring NATO's ongoing maneuvers in the Norwegian Sea, Russia's Northern Fleet said on Friday.

"The Severomorsk large anti-submarine ship is currently monitoring the MARCOM [NATO Allied Maritime Command] naval forces involved in a joint unscheduled air defense exercise taking place in the northeastern part of the Norwegian Sea," the Northern Fleet said in a statement on Friday.

In particular, involved in the NATO maneuvers are USS Arleigh Burke, a guided missile destroyer of the U.S. Navy, which moved from Naval Station Rota (Spain) to the Norwegian Sea on August 10-16.

"The Northern Fleet's forces and resources are continuing to observe the activities of NATO MARCOM ships in the northeastern part of the Atlantic," it said.
