Putin to attend extraordinary session of CSTO Collective Security Council on Aug 23 - Kremlin

MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, August 23, will attend the extraordinary session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which will be held by videoconference and will be chaired by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, the Kremlin press service said.

"There are plans to discuss issues relating to the security of the member countries of the Organization in the context of the events in Afghanistan, and also effective joint reaction to possible transborder challenges and threats," the report said.

On that day, Putin will also attend the opening ceremony of the international military-technical forum ARMY-2021 and the International Army Games 2021 in the military-patriotic culture and recreation park of the Russian Armed Forces Patriot.

"During the forum, the president will issue a command by videoconference to lay down the keels of warships for the Navy at Russia's leading shipyards: at Sevmash in Severodvinsk, at Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg, and at the Amur Shipbuilding Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The president will also visit the first training-methodical center of military-patriotic education of young people Avangard," the report said.

"On the forum site that day, Russian President Vladimir Putin will also meet with King Abdallah II of Jordan, who will be paying a working visit to Russia," the report said.

The meeting is expected to address the state and prospects of Russian-Jordanian cooperation in the political, trade-economic, military-technical, and other spheres, as well as vital regional issues, the press service said.
