Rosoboronexport working in Philippine arms market

KUBINKA, Moscow region. Aug 24 (Interfax) - Russia and the Philippines have military-technical cooperation projects, Rosoboronexport head Alexander Mikheyev told Interfax.

"Rosoboronexport is successfully carrying out and developing military-technical cooperation with the Philippines," Mikheyev said at the Army 2021 forum.

He did not provide further details.

Philippine Defense Minister Delfin Lorenzana said in an interview with Interfax at a defense exhibition in Indonesia in November 2018 that the Philippines was considering the procurement of several types of weapons, including transport and attack helicopters, diesel submarines, and small arms, from Russia.

The minister said that bilateral military-technical cooperation was already developing.

It was announced on June 18, 2018 that the military-technical cooperation agreement between Russia and the Philippines had taken effect. The agreement was signed on October 24, 2017 in the course of a visit by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Manila. Later that day, the sides signed a contract for the delivery of Russian RPG-7v2 grenade launchers with ammunition to the Philippines.

Later on, Philippine representatives said that no Russian hardware would be purchased for fear of U.S. sanctions.
