Afghan situation requires exchange of opinions, info, Russia and U.S. have mechanism of contacts - Peskov

MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Russia and the United States have a mechanism of contacts for exchanging information on the situation in Afghanistan, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"These contacts take place whenever necessary, but such a mechanism of contacts does exist," Peskov told reporters on Thursday when asked about Russia-U.S. contacts on the situation in Afghanistan.

Definitely, "the situation requires an exchange of opinions, of information, which is why such contacts are highly likely to continue in one form or another," he said.

It was reported earlier this week that there was a phone conversation on this issue between Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Peskov said.
