MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - Afghanistan should not turn into a territory of flourishing terrorism and drug trafficking now that the United States has withdrawn its troops from the country, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
Russia and Armenia are "in favor of peace, prosperity, and security in the region and in favor of decisions that should rule out the possibility that Afghanistan's territory could further be used by terrorists, drug dealers, and other organized crime elements," Lavrov said at a press conference following negotiations with the Armenian foreign minister, when asked what position Russia and Armenia have assumed on Afghanistan as members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) after the U.S. withdrawal from the country.
