Russian tank crews hold live-fire exercise in Tajikistan's mountains amid Afghanistan situation

YEKATERINBURG. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Russian tank crews have held a live-fire exercise in Tajikistan's mountains amid the escalating tensions in Afghanistan, the Central Military District's press service said on Wednesday.

"T-72 tank crews from the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan performed day and night firing assignments at the Lyaur highland range," the press service said.

The tank crews practiced such firing elements as flank fire and cannon and machinegun fire from a moving tank at emerging and moving targets imitating armor and troops of a mock enemy at various distances.
