Joint group of forces in N. Caucasus neutralizes 250 militants, destroys 29 of their training bases over past 5 years - Russian Guard

MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - A joint group of forces has conducted more than 4,000 security operations in the North Caucasus over the past five years, neutralizing 250 militants and destroying nearly 30 militant training bases, the Russian Guard said on Friday.

"Between the years of 2016 and 2021, the joint group of forces stationed in the territory of the North Caucasus region of the Russian Federation has carried out more than 4,000 special operations, during which 250 militants were eliminated and 29 training bases of illegal armed formations, 193 militant camps, and 517 caches were found and destroyed," the Russian Guard said in a statement.

The Russian Guard has been actively exchanging experience with the counterterrorism units of other countries, including China, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, it said.

"Together with cooperating agencies, counterterrorism exercises have been held regularly, focusing on the use of divisions and military units in the event of possible terrorist acts in closed administrative territorial entities and at important state facilities," the Russian Guard said.

The Russian Guard is holding a nationwide campaign, Together Against Terror, on the occasion of Solidarity Against Terrorism Day, marked on September 3.

"Russian Guard representatives together with the state authorities, local administrations, and civic associations are organizing commemorative and educational events for children and young people to pay respects to the victims of terrorist acts and law enforcement officers who died while on duty," the Russian Guard said.

As part of the counterterrorism awareness raising campaign, Russian Guard personnel are reminding citizens of the rules of conduct in the event of a terrorist threat and of necessary precautionary measures in public places.
