Azerbaijan reports attack on its position in Shusha area in Karabakh

BAKU. Sept 3 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has reported an attempted provocation carried out by illegal Armenian armed units in Karabakh in the early hours of Friday.

"The position of one of our units stationed in the Shusha area came under intensive fire from illegal Armenian armed units operating in Azerbaijani territory where the Russian peacekeepers are temporarily deployed between 1:00 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. on September 3," the Defense Ministry said.

Return fire was used to suppress the enemy, and it suffered casualties, the ministry said.

The command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and the joint Russian-Turkish monitoring center have been briefed on the incident, the ministry said.

"Please note that if this attempt at provocation repeats itself, we will continue to take appropriate measures consistent with the laws of Azerbaijan," it said.
