Russian, Kazakh troops stop mock enemy from breaking through during exercise in Western Sayan Mountains

YEKATERINBURG. Sept 3 (Interfax) - The battalion task group, composed of troops of the Central Military District and a unit of the Kazakh Armed Forces, stopped illegal military units from breaking into an allied country's territory at a joint exercise on the Kara-Khaak training ground at the foothills of the Western Sayan Mountains.

According to the exercise scenario, reconnaissance conducted by the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces located a group belonging to an illegal military formation that had illegally entered the country's territory.

To stop the mock enemy from moving further, a pair of Mi-8 military transport helicopters landed a tactical landing force of the Russian-Kazakh group in hard-to-access mountain regions under the cover of two Mi-24 attack helicopters.

"Having found the advancing militant groups of the mock enemy, the Russian and Kazakh troops started fighting the advancing enemy and threw its units from the hypothetical border of an allied country. Motorized infantry units on Tigr armored vehicles were used for further search and elimination of separate groups of the mock enemy, which eliminated the 'militants' using small arms after chasing the enemy," the district said.

Russia is represented in the tactical exercise by more than 500 troops and some 150 pieces of military hardware.

The exercise began on August 31 and will last until September 4.
