MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - The Baltic Fleet aviation has practiced bombing in the Kaliningrad region in the course of preparations for the Zapad (West) 2021 exercise, the fleet press service said in a statement on Friday.
"In the course of preparations for the Zapad 2021 strategic exercise, the crews of Su-24 bombers and Su-30SM multirole fighter jets carried out precision bombing of command posts and destroyed troops and combat hardware of the mock enemy at an aviation range in the Kaliningrad region," the statement said.
Bombs were dropped from altitudes of 200 meters to 2 kilometers, it said.
The Zapad 2021 Russian-Belarusian strategic exercise will take place between September 9 and 15.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the exercise will open at the Mulino range in the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Obuz-Lesnovsky range in the Brest region of Belarus on September 9.
First deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Main Directorate for International Military Cooperation Maj. Gen. Yevgeny Ilyin said earlier that up to 200,000 troops, about 80 planes and helicopters, up to 760 pieces of combat hardware, including 290 tanks, 240 cannons, rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships will be practicing in the territories of Russia and Belarus.
