MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - U.S. citizen Paul Whelan, convicted for espionage in Russia, is still hoping that a Russian court will grant the motion to extradite him to the United States to let him serve the remainder of his jail term in his home country, defense attorney Olga Karlova told Interfax.
Karlova said she spoke to Whelan, who is serving his sentence in a Mordovia penal colony, on the phone on Friday.
"He's happy we submitted the motion to the Supreme Court of Mordovia. He's now looking forward to the court hearing. He wants to be there. Of course, he has little hope for anything good but still has some hope inside," Karlova said about her client's mood.
