Myanmar's State Council vice chairman praises Russian tanks during visit to Russia

ALABINO, Moscow region. Sept 6 (Interfax) - Myanmar's State Administration Council Vice Chairman Gen. Soe Win has visited the International Army Games near Moscow and praised Russian battle tanks.

"This is the fourth time that Myanmar participates in the International Army Games, which speaks volumes of our cooperation with Russia and the good relations between our defense ministries," Soe Win said.

"Our army, too, has these remarkable T-72 battle tanks, which is why we are participating in Tank Biathlon [one of the Games' competitions]," he said.

This year, the Myanmar team participated in the Tank Biathlon second division and came in third place, the general said.

On the evening of September 3, the Russian Defense Ministry said that deputy minister Alexander Fomin had held talks with Soe Win in Moscow.

General Soe Win is Deputy Prime Minister of Myanmar's caretaker government, Deputy Supreme Commander-in-chief and Army Commander-in-chief.

"The two sides rated positively the dynamically developing mutually beneficial relationship in the military area and confirmed their aspiration to use the existing potential with utmost efficiency to deepen military and military-technical cooperation in the spirit of strategic partnership," the ministry said after the talks.

"The meeting passed in the traditionally friendly atmosphere and confirmed the mutual resolve to consistently increase the wide-ranging cooperation between the defense ministries of the two countries," it said.
