VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 6 (Interfax) - Supplies of the Yakovlev Yak-130 trainer and combat aircraft to Vietnam are to be concluded this year, head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Dmitry Shugayev said.
"The implementation of the contract for supplies of the Yak-130 trainer and combat aircraft to our Vietnamese partners is expected to conclude before the end of the year," Shugayev told journalists.
Talks with Hanoi on other aviation equipment will resume soon, he said.
"In addition to the Yak-130, Vietnam is also interested in the Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets and Yak-152 trainer aircraft. We plan to intensify the dialogue with the Vietnamese side on this track after the epidemiologic situation with coronavirus improves," Shugayev said.
According to media outlets, in 2019, Vietnam and Russia signed a contract for supplies of at least 12 Yak-130 trainer and combat aircraft worth over $350 million.
Rosoboronexport General Director Alexander Mikheyev said in September 2019 that Vietnam had become a major buyer of Russian military products, and the two countries were cooperating on purchases of all types of weapons.
As reported, Vietnam has purchased four Gepard-type frigates, six submarines of Project 636 Varshavyanka, 12 Molniya-class missile boats (including two direct delivery and ten licensed production), a Bastion road-mobile coastal missile system with a Yakhont standardized supersonic homing anti-ship missile, a number of battalion sets of S-300PMU1 air defense missile systems, 32 Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter jets, Igla MANPADS, and other weapons from Russia.
