MOSCOW. Sept 6 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry has decided to increase the number of reservists, and the deployment of reservists to the Kaliningrad region for an exercise was planned in advance.
"Reservists have been deployed to the Kaliningrad region for an exercise. Previously, reservists were trained in the course of monthly drills, and now they are accomplishing training missions in the Kaliningrad region, upgrading their military knowledge, competences, and skills of using weapons and military hardware, and demonstrating high professionalism and solid military discipline," the Defense Ministry said in a statement published on its website on Monday.
"The event was planned in November 2020 within the framework of planning the mobilization and combat training events of 2021," the ministry said.
The engagement of reservists in the training of the Russian Armed Forces began in 2016, the ministry said. Each year, units staffed with reservists take part in all largescale exercises held between Kamchatka and Kaliningrad, the Arctic region and Crimea, and they are traditionally lauded by the command, it said.
"Citizens assigned to the mobilization reserves are provided with modern equipment, compensation, every kind of benefit, and skilled medical assistance," the ministry said.
