Uzbek air defense units practicing near Afghan border

TASHKENT. Sept 7 (Interfax) - Military units and air defense crews of Uzbekistan's Southwestern Special Military District are practicing in the Surxondaryo region bordering Afghanistan, the Uzbek Defense Ministry's press service said on Tuesday.

"On the orders from a deputy commander of the Southwestern Special Military District, field practice of military units and air defense crews is due to take place in the zones of intensive air traffic in the Surxondaryo region," the press service said.

According to the defense ministry, the drill has begun at the Termez range.

"The primary objective of the drill is further improvement of the experience and consolidation of knowledge regarding the organization of hostilities and their comprehensive support under modern conditions," it said.
