State Duma to follow new Taliban govt's work, refrains from assessments for now

MOSCOW. Sept 7 (Interfax) - Chairman of the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky believes that it will be possible to assess the new Afghan government after they begin working.

"It is too early to draw any conclusions or make statements after the Taliban movement [recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia] announced the composition of its government. In this situation, it is necessary to follow the Taliban's next steps and how the general situation will unfold," Slutsky told reporters on Tuesday.

He added that Russia is interested in the earliest possible stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan, resolution of the humanitarian crisis and ensuring security in the region.

As previously reported, the Taliban formed the composition of the new Afghan government and named its members.
