BAKU. Sept 7 (Interfax) - An Azerbaijani serviceman who was detained on August 26 in the Karabakh area temporarily controlled by Russian peacekeepers has been returned to his home country, the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons told Interfax on Tuesday.
Jamil Babaev was returned to Azerbaijan by peacekeepers in exchange for two Armenian soldiers, Artur Nalbandyan and Aramis Torozyan, the commission said.
Earlier, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said that Babaev had escaped from the psychiatric unit of a hospital in Ganja.
"The Azerbaijani army serviceman Babaev arbitrarily left the psychiatric unit of the Ganja hospital. A criminal case has been opened against serviceman Babaev, the inquiry is under way," the statement said.
