Russian military base in Tajikistan receives batch of heavy machineguns amid Afghanistan situation

YEKATERINBURG. Sept 8 (Interfax) - The Russian military base in Tajikistan has been supplied with Utyos heavy machineguns, the Central Military District press service said in a statement.

"A batch of 12.7mm NSV Utyos heavy machineguns has been supplied to the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan to enhance its combat capacities," the district press service said.

The Taliban (terrorist organization banned in Russia) have come to power in Afghanistan.

The 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan, which operates as a part of the Central Military District, is the largest Russian military facility outside the national territory.

Back in August, the district press service reported the base's provision with Verba MANPADS, AK-12 Kalashnikov rifles, modern sniper rifles, flamethrowers, and modern Kornet anti-tank missile systems. The decision to enhance the Russian military base in Tajikistan with 17 modern BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles was announced on July 21.

In 2020, the base received about 20 pieces of new and modernized hardware, including Mi-8-MTV5-1 military transport helicopters and modernized BMP-2M infantry combat vehicles, the district press service said in January. As Interfax reported earlier, the air defense component of the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan was enhanced with a battalion of S-300PS air defense missile systems (designed and manufactured by Almaz-Antey) that was put on combat duty at the end of 2019.
