Russia, India agree to coordinate their approaches to work on Afghan track - Russian Security Council

MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and the Indian prime minister's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval have discussed the situation in Afghanistan and cooperation in the Afghan settlement process at a meeting, the Russian Security Council press service said.

"The prospects of Russian-Indian cooperation aimed to create conditions for launching the peace settlement process based on the intra-Afghan dialogue have been discussed. It has also been agreed to coordinate the approaches of Russia and India to the work on the Afghan track in multilateral formats," the press service said.

In furtherance of the August 24 phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Patrushev and Doval exchanged views on the military-political and socioeconomic situation in Afghanistan and discussed humanitarian and migration problems in that country, it said.

"The importance of determining parameters of the future state structure of Afghanistan by Afghans themselves and the need to prevent an escalation of violence and social, ethnic and confessional disagreements in that country have been underlined," the press service said.
