YEKATERINBURG. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Units of the Russian Central Military District's Combined-Arms Army in the Novosibirsk and Samara regions have received the first eight KamAZ-63949 Taifunyonok armored vehicles, the military district's press service said on Wednesday.
"The Taifunyonok armored vehicle is intended to transport personnel and cargo, as well as to protect from small arms and explosive devices during combat training missions. Inside the combat vehicle's armored body there are ten seats for the crew and landing force personnel: four seats (including the commander's and the driver's seats) are forward-facing, while the other six seats are situated in the rear section of the vehicle along the boards," the press service said.
The vehicle, which has an operational weight of almost 14 tonnes, can move at a speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour and has an endurance range of 800-850 kilometers. Its armored hull can protect the crew and landing force personnel from 7.62mm armor-piercing bullets and fragments of artillery shells.
