Criminal case opened against deputy head of Engineering Troops Gen. Alakhverdiyev - source (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Deputy head of the Engineering Troops of the Russian Armed Forces Maj. Gen. Ruslan Alakhverdiyev has become the subject of an inquiry into corruption, a source told Interfax on Wednesday.

"A criminal case against the general has been opened and is being investigated under two articles of the Criminal Code: Part 6 of Article 290 (the taking of a massive bribe by an official) and Part 1 of Article 285 (abuse of office)," the source said.

The inquiry was launched in late July, and active investigative activities are underway, the source said. "It hasn't been ruled out that there will be new suspects from among the high-ranking officer's senior-level military colleagues," the source said without elaborating.
