Russian ambassador's presence at Taliban govt inauguration will suffice, it isn't recognition - Senator Dzhabarov

MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Being represented by the ambassador at the inauguration of the new Afghan government, to which Russia has been invited, will be enough, Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee First Deputy Chairman Vladimir Dzhabarov said.

"Our embassy is continuing to operate there. Being represented at this inauguration by the ambassador to Afghanistan would be quite enough for Russia to be represented," Dzhabarov told Interfax on Wednesday, recalling that Moscow has not severed diplomatic ties with Kabul.

"And as for recognition of the government formed by the Taliban [which is banned in Russia], no, this won't mean recognition. Moscow will be watching how events evolve further and where the Taliban authorities will be going next," Dzhabarov said.
