TASHKENT. Sept 14 (Interfax) - The leadership of the Taliban (banned in Russia) has thanked the Uzbek authorities for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry's press service told Interfax on Tuesday.
Uzbekistan has supplied 1,300 tonnes of food, medicines and clothes to Afghanistan as humanitarian aid.
"On behalf of the entire Afghan people, we express our profound gratitude to Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the profound attention, support and solidarity demonstrated at this difficult time for the country," Afghan interim government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said at the aid delivery ceremony in Hairatan, Afghanistan.
"The head of Uzbekistan, whose policy is viewed by our multinational people as a true manifestation of humanism, brotherhood and neighborliness, was one of the first to respond to the call for help," the Taliban representative said.
Governor of the Balkh Province Qudratillo Abu Hamza said that the aid was timely and highly relevant and "served as yet another proof of the centuries-old historical, cultural and spiritual relations between the two peoples."
"The aid will help Afghanistan recover from the pandemic and will contribute to the prevention of a possible humanitarian and food crisis," Abu Hamza said.
