MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) - Russia's Justice Ministry will consider documents for the transfer of U.S. citizen Paul Whelan, convicted of espionage in Russia, to the United States as soon as it receives them, the press service for the Justice Ministry said on Tuesday.
"At this point, the Russian Justice Ministry has not received a request from the convict or his attorney, a relevant U.S. authority, or a copy of a Republic of Mordovia Supreme Court ruling which has gone into effect," a statement in response to a query from Interfax said.
"When they arrive at the Russian Justice Ministry, the FSIN [Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service] will prepare the material as required by the convention [on the transfer of convicts] for consideration of the matter in essence," the statement said.
