Russia's Northern Fleet fires Bastion cruise missile at training target in Barents Sea

MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) - The crew of the Bastion coastal missile system on Alexandra Land Island (Franz Josef Land archipelago) fired a cruise missile at a target in the Barents Sea during an exercise of Russia's Northern Fleet, the press service for the Northern Fleet said on Tuesday.

"An anti-ship cruise missile has been fired at a target position placed in the Barents Sea at the maximum range," the press service said.

According to the military, elimination of a squadron of ships of a simulated enemy was trained.

"The area of the missile firing exercise was closed to civilian shipping and aviation flights beforehand. The closure of the area was ensured by ships of the Kola Flotilla of diverse forces," the press service said.
