ULYANOVSK. Sept 15 (Interfax) - More than a dozen convicts in Penal Colony No. 2 in the Ulyanovsk region have refused to eat, the press service for the Federal Penitentiary Service's Directorate for the Ulyanovsk region told Interfax on Wednesday.
"Twelve convicts who are serving their terms in Penal Colony No. 2 refused in writing to eat food to protest their living conditions on September 13. The information was immediately sent to supervisory bodies," the directorate said.
The convicts, who have gone on hunger strike, are serving terms, in particular, for murder, banditry, assault, drug trafficking, and extortion using violence, the press service said.
"They are now under the constant control of medical personnel. Their health is satisfactory," the directorate said.
