YEKATERINBURG. Sept 15 (Interfax) - The maintenance of runways at airports with unmanned vehicles will allow people to avoid making wrong decisions during the takeoffs and landings of aircraft, head of the Roscosmos state corporation Dmitry Rogozin said.
"The airport is a complex facility, which also involves security, primarily aviation security. We want [at the airport complex of Vostochny Cosmodrome] to introduce a system of unmanned vehicles that will provide cleaning, including snow removal, of the entire runway and the entire terminal as a whole, from some debris, controlled from a single control system. Of course, we will firmly ensure traffic safety so that no one makes irrelevant decisions when entering the runway while a plane lands or takes off. We want to work it out," Rogozin told reporters in Yekaterinburg.
"Gross violations of runway security" were the causes of incidents in which people have died and aircraft have been damaged.
During a visit to NPO Avtomatiki in Yekaterinburg on Wednesday, Rogozin spoke about the need to draw up relevant proposals.
NPO Avtomatiki JSC is one of the largest enterprises in Russia in the development and manufacture of control systems and radio electronic equipment for rocket and space technology, as well as control systems for the automation of technological processes in various industries. The scientific production association has developed a control system for the Soyuz-2 medium-class launch vehicle.
