Ukrainian General Staff puts Verba MLRS developed by Ukrainian scientists into service

KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax) - The Verba multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) which was developed by the Morozov Kharkiv Design Bureau for Mechanical Engineering has been put into service for the Ukrainian army, the press service for the Ukroboronprom state concern said on Wednesday.

"Verba's digital systems allow the crew to control fire, aim and even reload in automatic mode. The ammunition load of this MLRS consists of 40 122mm projectiles that are capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 40 kilometers. Moreover, reloading a full package takes only ten minutes," the statement said.

The use of digital fire control systems made it possible to significantly reduce the time to open fire, and thanks to the new platform stabilization system, it was possible to significantly improve accuracy, it said.

"Additionally, the Verba has modern digital communication systems for secure transmission of information. In combination with a KrAZ off-road chassis, this ensures Verba's high combat efficiency and mobility on the battlefield," the concern said.

The Verba was developed based on the BM-21 Grad, but the rocket launcher has been substantively upgraded, in particular, the navigation, communication, leveling and stabilization systems of the platform, it said.
